Original, Theatrical 'Star Wars' Films Finally Coming to DVD
Finally, for Star Wars purists like me, the original trilogy is finally going to be released on DVD! CNN.com makes the announcement here: "Original 'Star Wars' films coming to DVD." The following is the complete story:
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) -- The original theatrical versions of the first three "Star Wars" films are finally coming to DVD on September 12, two years after diehard fans blasted George Lucas for releasing only the digitally modified 2004 versions of the celebrated trilogy in a boxed collection.
This time, "Star Wars," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" will be available individually and appear on DVD exactly as they did in their respective theatrical runs in 1977, 1980 and 1983.
Each release, distributed by 20th Century Fox, will be a two-disc set that also includes the digitally tweaked 2004 edition.
The DVDs will be available only through December 31.

saw this myself today too... can't wait!
blessings to you...
You know I didn't mind the addition of Jabba the Hutt in A New Hope because at least that scene had been mostly filmed in the original. However, I remember being stunned last year when I was watching the DVD version of Return of the Jedi and they had inserted Hayden Christiansen (sp?) into the final scene. Arghh! In my mind, they had messed with CANON.
What has never been seen to my knowledge are the scenes with Biggs and Luke on Tattoine at the beginning of A New Hope which are in the book and were supposedly filmed but cut for length of time. However, I've always thought they would connect the begining of the movie to the end if they were inserted.
